As if Olympic Style Kayaking (K1) was not already hard enough in flatwater, USA National Team Kayaker Pat Dolan decided to take his Epic K1 kayak out for a race in Moanalua Bay on the Island of Oahu. Pretty impressive to say the least. Thanks for being the man Pat!

Vertra Sunscreen's Dolan Brothers (Ryan & Patrick) are among Hawaii's top Outrigger/Surfski/ K1 paddlers.  In preparation for the 2012 London Olympic Games, the Dolan Brothers are continuing their training at home, in the warm waters of Hawaii, under the strategic coaching of Guy Wilding. "We love Hawaii, and we enjoy training at our local kayaking club (HCKT)," commented Ryan.  Hawaii Canoe and Kayak Team (HCKT) is an Olympic Development Program designed to elevate Hawaii's elite paddling athletes to be competitive on the world scale. Ryan and Patrick have been USACK National Team Members since 2006.

This past weekend Patrick Dolan took top honors in the Surfski Divison of the PA'A race from Makapu'u to Pinky's Cannal. Ryan took 6th in the OC1 Divison.

Vertra Sunscreen at the 2010 Tecolote 5000 Canoe/Kayak/SUP Race

What started off as a cold and cloudy San Diego morning, ended up being a fun and successful paddling event. The annual Tecolote 5000 Canoe/Kayak/SUP/ Paddleboard race benefits the non-profit Toys for Tots as well as a fundraiser for the local San Diego Canoe/Kayak Team. A solid turnout of about 150 competiotrs took to the chilly San Diego waters. The SDCKT is a Olympic Development program that helps kids reach their dream of Junior/Senior National Team nominations.

Vertra Sunscreen athlete Danny Ching from California ventured down with his crew from Redondo Beach to support this local event. Pat and Ryan Dolan the brothers out of Hawaii were also in California attending a 2 week National Team preparation camp at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista.

Vertra's Dolan Brothers find Success at the 2010 Pan American Championships!

::FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:: Dolan Brothers Perform in Mexico City Honolulu, Hawaii (October 10, 2010)-- The Dolan brothers had a successful showing at the Pan American Championships in Mexico City over the weekend, helping qualify three spots for next years Pan American Games, which will serve as a second chance qualifier for the London 2012 Olympic Games. Kailua's Patrick Dolan and Gainsville's Morgan House placed fifth in the final of the K2 1000m, while Ryan Dolan took third in the K1 500m and 200m finals. The Pan American Games marks the end of the competitive sprint kayaking season for the brothers, who are looking forward to their off season. In November, Patrick will be competing in Hawaiki Nui, an outrigger paddling event in Tahiti covering almost 70 miles in three days, while Ryan looks forward to the upcoming surfski and OC1 races this fall. The brothers won't have to race again until the U.S. National Team Trials to be held sometime in spring of 2011, which is the first step of  many in a long and important year for the boys, which will ultimately determine if the qualify for the 2012 Olympics. Dolan Brothers gear up for 2010 US National Team Trials

After months of dedicated training at home in the Hawaii Islands, Patrick and Ryan Dolan arrived back in Chula Vista, CA in preparation for the 2010 US National Team Trials. These trials are set to begin on April 24th with athletes competing for the top spot in the 200 and 1000 meter Olympic distances. Ryan and Patrick have elected to race together in the two-person (K2) kayak are focused on finishing atop the podium in the K2 1000 meter event. They will also be racing individually in the K1 1000 meter distance as well. April 25th will be the second day of racing in the 200 meter events. As apposed to the 1000 meter events which span just over 3 punishing minutes of racing, the 200 meter event is quick, intense, and holds no room for error. Athletes competing in this discipline have to be flawless from start to finish.
